Split ends are common hair problem dreaded by many women. There are many ways on how to avoid having split ends but the most important thing is to know exactly how to avoid split ends.
Causes of split ends
It is good to understand what causes the spilt ends. Some of the causes include
Excess heat – it weakens the hair. Hair is made up of protein and as known some proteins are destroyed by the excess heat exposed to the hair during brow drying, perming or tonging.
Aging- People have less control over this cause but one can delay and minimize the chances of having the splits ends.
Dryness- Excessive dryness makes the hair fragile. This makes it more susceptible to uneven breakage especially at the ends

Tips on how to avoid split ends

1. Brush/comb hair carefully
When combing the hair divide it into smaller portions then comb beginning from the ends as you get into the mid sections. After the hair is soft you can now brush from bottom to the end. A brush should have flexible bristles. A comb/brush with hard bristles will tear the hair and leave split ends.

2. Always squeeze wet hair.
Hair is very vulnerable when it’s wet. Rubbing towel through wet hair will only lead to excessive breakage that will lead to spilt ends. The best way is to wrap the hair with a towel then squeeze it dry.

3. Trim hair when its drying
As hair grows the ends tends to be weak. To avoid uneven breakage it’s advisable to trim it. Trimming will ensure that the split will not spread to the entire hair shaft. Trimming should also be done using hairs scissors that are sharp and designed to cut hair.

4. Oiling is necessary
Oiling prevents the hair from damage. The oil forms a coat around the hair sheath hence preventing damaging

African hair is good for braiding, but too much braiding may cause split ends. Tight braids mean that the hair is excessively pulled hence it will may even fall and break. Braiding should be simple and done once in a while.

7. Shield the hair from extreme weather conditions
